What Is Vaginoplasty?
A vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the vagina by removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the surrounding soft tissues and muscles.
It results in a vaginal tightness for the patient, which may be similar to before the childbirth or simply to the degree she desires.
Why would I want vaginoplasty surgery?
When a mother delivers her baby naturally, the vagina and surrounding tissues and muscles become stretched. After delivery, the vagina may reduce in size, but a certain looseness is commonly retained. Generally, the more vaginal deliveries a mother undergoes and the bigger the babies, the less likelihood of the vagina returning to its former diameter.
We have also had numerous patients who spoke of having a “loose” feeling in their vagina without having previously delivered children. Upon physical examination, they indeed had a vaginal diameter that was greater than average. Vaginoplasty surgery can help them achieve their desired result as well.
Appearances aside, many women experience reduced sensations and sexual satisfaction during intercourse, usually due to a lack of friction. This can also cause climaxing to be more difficult. Often their partner may notice a change as well – whether in visual appearance, sensations, or both. One may see Kegel exercises being recommended often, which are intended to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, but they rarely succeed in restoring vaginal tightness.
Vaginoplasty will tighten the vagina, leading to increased friction during intercourse. You and your partner will easily feel the difference in sexual pleasure after the procedure. For women who developed a looseness after childbirth, the vaginal tightness will be similar to the pre-baby days. As always, we work closely with our patients, so you can achieve your most desirable outcome.
Where is the vaginoplasty surgery performed?
We perform this procedure in our state of the art outpatient surgical center.
What is the average length of time of vaginoplasty procedure?
The average length of a vaginoplasty procedure is between 1 to 2 hours. An additional hour is spent afterward in our recovery room, where a Registered Nurse will make sure your needs are fully met.
What type of anesthesia is used for vaginoplasty surgery?
We perform this procedure under conscious sedation usually using a very short acting medication named Diprovan (propophol). You will be comfortably asleep during the procedure and will awaken within minutes after the surgery is completed. You will not be paralyzed or intubated during the surgery. Please note that this may be different at other facilities, where the patient is often awake during the surgical procedure. This is because we believe that our patients should have the most comfortable experience possible. Anesthesia services are provided by professional board certified anesthesiologists and are included in the cost of the procedure.
What is the postoperative period like?
You may experience discomfort at the surgical site for the first few days, after which it should diminish and go away. We always send patients home with prescriptions for pain medication and antibiotics so they can rest in comfort. Full healing takes approximately four weeks. All sutures used are dissolvable and therefore do not need to be removed.
When can I return to work after vaginoplasty surgery?
Most patients are able to return to work within two days after surgery. For your convenience, we can also provide general and discrete medical excuse letters for work.
When can I resume sexual activity after vaginoplasty?
We recommend avoiding sexual activity and strenuous exercise for four weeks.

Can labiaplasty and vaginoplasty procedures be done at the same time?
Yes, you can undergo both procedures at the same time. We also provide a discount if multiple surgeries are performed on the same day.
Does insurance cover the costs of a vaginoplasty?

We also accept all major credit cards.
