INTRAUTERINE DEVICE (IUD)

Women who are sexually active and wish to avoid pregnancies can consider using Intrauterine Devices. An IUD is a T-shaped device that is placed into the body of the uterus, and prevents pregnancy with 99% certainty. There are 2 types: Paraguard (nonhormonal) and Mirena (hormonal). The Paraguard can slightly increase menstrual flow and the Liletta can decrease menstrual flow. Dr. Sorkin can discuss these options with you to help you determine which is your best option.
